CanSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program designed for beginners of all ages. This program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. The Skaters earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach which is assisted by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning.
What to Wear? Children in the CanSkate program are required to wear a hockey helmet. Skaters should be dressed warmly for the sessions, layered clothing works best. Mitts/gloves are required. Skates should be sharpened and the boot should be able to withstand the “Flop Test” (hold one of the skates by the top of the boot, turn it sideways so that the boot and blade are horizontal to the ground, if the bottom flops down to forma 90 degree angle the boots are too weak to support the child). The use of skate guards is recommended to protect the skate blades when walking on any surface other that the ice. Even the rubber mats have bits of gravel on them, which can damage the blade edges.

Rising Stars (Bridging)
Rising Stars is the next step your child can take after they have completed all the CanSkate levels. The Rising Stars (Bridging) program “Bridges” the gap between CanSkate and Figure Skating. This program is a Skate Canada program that is a fun way to explore the various disciplines in figure skating. Your child will have lessons that are led by a certified professional coach in a group setting in the areas of Free Skate, Skating skills, Dance, Stroking and Synchronized skating.
STAR Skaters (Figure)
Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STARSkate is all about! STARSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.
Synchronized Skating
Synchronized skating is a new stream of team skating that is a Skate Canada Program. Synchro, or precision skating as it was formally known, is a specialized discipline of skating in which groups of 8 - 16 skaters link together and execute formations such as circles, wheels, lines, blocks and intersections. The objective is for the team to perform as one unit in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality edges, power and flow. This program focuses on fun, participation, friendly competition and lifetime of involvement!
What to Wear? Dresses or warm-up pants with skating tights/leggings are recommended, along with mitts or gloves. Jeans are not permitted. Your skater must be able to move and be comfortable out on the ice. Skates should be sharpened and the use of skate guards is recommended to protect the skate blades when walking on any surface other than ice. Hair is to be tied back and out of ones face.

The adult skate program is designed for males and females ages 18 to 99! This program will refine your skating skills whether you are a beginner who has never been on skates before or a seasoned skater who wants to skate in a controlled environment. The lessons are led by a Skate Canada certified coach and are done in a group setting. The Adult skate program puts the emphasis back into fun, fitness and safety on the ice!

The Warren Skating Club Annual Ice Show
The Warren Skating Club Annual Ice Show is taking place on Wednesday, March 17, 2010. We are presenting "Nights on Broadway" featuring CanSkaters, Rising Stars, StarSkaters and the Warren Gliders Synchronized skating team.
NO ADMISSION ~ doors open at 5:30pm ~ all are welcome!
